Welcome to baubotanik.org
The research area Baubotanik was initiated in 2007 by Prof. Dr. Gerd de Bruyn at the institute for architectural theory (IGMA), University of Stuttgart, to focus all research activities in the context of Baubotanik, transferring them to an interdisciplinary research process. Ever since, research works with botanical, constructive and theoretical emphasis are being edited in a network of natural scientists, engineers, humanities scholars and architects.

Announcement: LandWorks Sardinia 2012
Designing and building a Baubotanik project in only 10 days is possible at this year's workshop "LandWorks Sardinia 2012". Registrations till 7th May 2012.
Announcement: Lecture Noël van Dooren
The lecture titled "Drawing Time" by Noël van Dooren will take place the 26th April 2012, starting at 3.00 p.m. at room 3.02 of the Uni Stuttgart City Centre, Keplerstrasse 11 (3rd floor).
Announcement: PhD thesis presentation
The PhD thesis presentation titled "Botanical principles of Baubotanik and their use at design" by Ferdinand Ludwig will take place the 16th April 2012, starting at 1.00 p.m. at the departement room of the Uni Stuttgart City Centre, Keplerstrasse 11 (5th floor).
Announcement: Summer semester 2012
At the seminar / design "Designing Growth" we will examine building processes of baubotanical structures and associate their temporal developement with changes of the urban environment.
Announcement: Award "Übermorgenmacher"
Ferdinand Ludwig was selected one of the 60 "Übermorgenmacher" with "Baubotanik - Living plant construction" by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
September 2011: Construction progress Plane-Tree-Cube Nagold
The construction works on the steel structure are finished, the plants placed and connected at their intersection points. At the current progress, the green wall is already recognizable.
September 2011: Baubotanik documentary at Deutsche Welle TV
A short documentary about Baubotanik titled "Baubotanik: Connection between architecture and nature" was published the 12th sept 2011 at the magazine "euromaxx" of the Deutsche Welle TV.
Announcement: Winter semester 2011/2012
At the seminar "BauM-Ko I", design basics of Baubotanik will be taught. These basics can be intensified with a small, baubotanical design at the offhand "BauM am Hang".
March 2011: Workshop 'productive plant-systems'
The workshop "productive plant-systems for the postfossil urban planning" took place the 10th March 2011 at the University of
Stuttgart.
February 2011: Construction works for the Plane-Tree-Cube started
Construction works for the "Plane-Tree-Cube Nagold" started the 8th February 2011. The project will be revealed within the Regional Horticultural Show Nagold in 2012.
July 2010: Baubotanik Tower awarded
The Baubotanik Tower was awarded the price "Selected Landmark 2010" within the contest "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" on the 28th of July 2010. The price was presented at the project "Neue Kunst am Ried".
Cooperation with LiloRann
In cooperation with the project LiloRann, baubotanical structures are to be used to confine the desertification in North Gujarat (India) with the aid of invasive plants.
