Although they sometimes depend on technical facilities that enable their growth and their tilting stability, baubotanical buildings unfold spatial and sensual qualities that are normally experienced only in full-grown trees, straight after their completion.

Dealing with the living plants in a constructional way enables the “treetop” to be created as a space of various utilisation – for example as a three-dimensional "pocket-park". Therefore Baubotanik is not only a technology of plants, but also a modern vision of the urban: It faces the challenge to create a green space with a great capacity in a minimal area in dense built-up city centers or rapidly growing metropolises. It provides an opportunity to develop horticultural situations on minimal ground areas, that are usable within minimal time and thus anticipating the ecological quality of trees, having stood there for decades.

At the same time, a baubotanical building is always adjusting its growth to the ecological factors of the location and is able to repair small damaged spots on its own. The result of these adaptive processes is a form, resulting from the conditions and events it is exposed to over the years. Based on this "autobiographic form finding" each building, even each botanical construction detail, develops its own character and – like an old tree – becomes a figure.
